Here's some material on Quoits - the name used in Cornwall. Together with neolithic tor enclosures, they are the oldest megalithic sites in Cornwall.
Otherwise they're known elsewhere as dolmens or cromlechs. They date from the mid-3000s BCE, the neolithic era.
